TOURISM: Hotel occupancy rate in Sint Maarten up nearly 10% in January 2023 compared to 2022

The SHTA (Sint Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association) has just published a study on the occupancy rates of hotels and timeshare rentals for January 2023 with a comparison of room occupancy before the Covid-19 pandemic and before Hurricane Irma hit.

Occupation:

• Hotels: 76,4% (in 2023), 67,6% (in 2022), 88,9% (in 2020), 71,8% (in 2017)

• Timeshare rental: 77% (in 2023), 72,7% (in 2022), 77,1% (in 2020), 84,9% (in 2017)

• Total occupancy: 76,8% (in 2023), 70,8% (in 2022), 81,3% (in 2020), 78,5% (in 2017)

Total rooms available: 3315 (in 2023), 3315 (in 2022), 2754 (in 2020), 3963 (in 2017)

• Average rooms occupied per day: 2545 (in 2023), 2347 (in 2022), 2239 (in 2020), 3110 (in 2017).

“The number of available rooms reflects the hotels and timeshares that have declared their occupancy, although our duly completed occupancy rates are generated on a voluntary basis by our members, a margin of error remains possible”, specifies the SHTA (Sint Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association)._AF
