On Friday, October 14, the morning was devoted to celebrating Pink October, Breast Cancer Screening Awareness Month. A look back at the event, which was artistic, instructive and touching.
The Pink October action at Mont des Accords began shortly after 9am with words of welcome from students Richardson and Cozier, followed by a speech by the principal of the establishment, David Desiage. The event obviously received the full support and authorization of the members of the management, who could be seen in one room or another listening with great attention to the testimonies of the speakers, which did not fail to reinforce the unanimous feeling to communicate on prevention and the importance of regular screening: breast cancer diagnosed as early as possible considerably increases the chances of recovery and survival. Like every event orchestrated by the dedicated Ange-Marie Venthou-Dumaine, a librarian professor at the college, with the help of Mesdames Andrew, Trillaud, Hilaire, Noël and Lake, art had a special place in the pink morning. The pupils of Madame Hilaire danced with grace and the recitation of poems by the pupils of third was a nice moment. Special occasion, circumstances of choice: students from the Soualiga college and the Daniella Jeffry vocational high school had been invited to participate in this pink initiative while strengthening interdisciplinarity. In total, more than 200 students enjoyed the show, presentations on breast cancer and testimonials from Tamara Leonard and Marceline Looblack. The auditorium of the Mont des Accords college was reserved for the French-speaking part and English resounded in the CDI class. A great initiative to propose an event in both languages. Thanks to this, a survivor living on the Dutch side of the island, Marceline Looblack, shared her story in front of the students of the three different schools, with palpable emotion and unfailing strength. Marceline told her story, simply, in front of young people who were silent and touched by the story of this woman who declared “don't give up hope, never. Find a reason to live. “Sacred lesson of life. The event continued with a vox pop in Spanish from Madame Verry's class and an exchange with Marlène Toma, midwife at the Marigot dispensary, on breast cancer itself. In the afternoon, a release of pink balloons took place in the courtyard, as a tribute. The young people then resumed the course of their school day after admiring the many panels and banners made by students from the Collège du Mont des Accords. _VX
