Football: Senior selection on the right track

0

Part of the Saint-Martin senior football selection was on training at the Center technique Bretagne in Ploufragan with coach Stéphane Auvray and his assistant Steven Tackling. Update with Stéphane Auvray, on this internship which should lead to the rebirth of a selection on the edge of the abyss.

Fax Info: Why did you choose to train in Brittany?

Stéphane Auvray: We opted for this center because for some players it was more interesting, it was well located, the structures are of good quality and the welcome was good. We were in a football atmosphere, in which we could focus only on football. In Saint-Martin, it's complicated to have a correct structure. Unfortunately, we had players who were injured on the weekend just before the start of the camp, a small flat that has handicapped us a little. There was a small group of 14 players, because I really wanted to work in quality, knowing that we also had a match at the end of the course.

Fax Info: Most of the players did not know each other, the establishment of the group was difficult?

Stéphane Auvray: It was a bit complicated to put things in place, but we did our best. The mood of the players was very good. They immediately entered the instructions that I had asked them, knowing that there were quite a few people who did not know each other. It was interesting in terms of content and relationships. We created a group in a very short time. It will be easy to integrate them with the local players, because I was lucky to have a player from Saint-Martin who was in France at the same time, and who came to do the internship with us.

Fax Info: How was the end of training match?

Stéphane Auvray: The friendly match at the end of the internship was interesting in the sense that I am looking for content. I have a very precise idea of the game that I want to set up, so compared to that I was satisfied. We tried two game systems, I preferred the second, but the only downside was that we were missing four players who were injured. But the game system may change because it will depend on the dynamics of the team that we will face. We tried a system with a number 10 and another system with three players in the middle, with a sentry in front of the defense.

Fax Info: You played against a formation of which level?

Stéphane Auvray: We were in Saint-Brieuc and we played against Langueux, an R1 team that plays the climb. It was ideal for us. We didn't want an opposition that was too strong, because I wanted to try things out. So there was no need to go get an N2, which would not have been logical.

Fax Info: What are the next meetings of the Saint-Martin team?

Stéphane Auvray: We have two Concacaf Nations League matches. One against Barbados and the other against the Cayman Islands. We are in group C, with Barbados, the Cayman Islands and the United States Virgin Islands. The objective is to finish in group A, but we are not there yet. The idea is to build. During the last game in Anguilla, I saw supporters and spectators who came to see us win. They must understand that to win you must have a base, a workforce. The goal is to build to have a solid foundation, whether on or off the field. We can then talk about performance.
