Transport: Air traffic flounders

0

Despite a semblance of recovery, the air traffic market impacted by the health crisis and the restrictions is struggling to take off again.

With 73.590 passengers transported, transit included, the Fort de France-Martinique Aimé Césaire airport showed in June 2021 a decrease in traffic of -46,47% compared to June 2019, the last reference year before the appearance of the health crisis. The Guadeloupe segment shows a decrease of -45,32% compared to 2019 but an increase of + 63% compared to June 2020, with 17.465 passengers transported. The lifting of confinement in Guadeloupe at the end of May and a 3rd phase of deconfinement put in place from June 9 will not have made it possible to restore more fluid traffic between the two islands. For Guyana, the reduction in the frequency of rotations to 2 weekly flights and the strengthening of health measures continue to affect traffic, which falls by -83,12%, or 970 passengers transported in June. While a slight increase in passenger traffic was recorded at the end of June 2021, (+ 6% compared to 2020) the number of passengers has halved since the emergence of the coronavirus (-54% compared to 2019)
