What does National Day represent for you?

As every year, France has put in fresh - although the heat wave rages - for yesterday's festivities. Do citizens think this holiday makes sense? The many interviewees, here are two examples, agreed that they were very attached to it.

Winifred, 91, comes to visit her “French Quarter” family. In English, July 14 is Bastille's day, even if it means compromising a little with historical truth since our national holiday commemorates the Fête de la Fédération on July 14, 1790 and not the taking of the Bastille on July 14 89! So what does she think of our national holiday?

_I am happy for the French! Atrocious things happened during this time, but the revolution brought about great changes. I discovered this historical period thanks to the novel by Charles Dickens, the Tale of two Cities, which I read when I was little, 80 years ago… as I really liked the story, it got me. gave a sentimental link with the Revolution. I am happy to go to the festivities and the fireworks!

D._It is a celebration even more important than that of May 8 or November 11, we celebrate the whole nation. I party every time, to mark the occasion.

S._It's true that it's July 14, but spending so much money on fireworks is not essential in my opinion! When we see the money problems of young people, I would prefer that we invest for them! _HM
