Continued strandings of sargassum

0

They are still there, and invade part of our coastline. According to the health agency (ARS), strandings of sargassum continue to suffocate certain sectors of the island.

In Lucas Bay, a “more marked” increase in algae on the surface of the water and on the shore was observed by the ARS. The last reading, for week 50, also indicates that the odors are present in the bay of Cul-de-Sac and the north eastern bay. As for the gas emissions, they are “below the detection threshold”. These sites are always to be monitored as a priority. In Saint-Barthélemy, some beaches like Grands Galets reconnect with the Sargassum. On those of Flamands, Marigot, Maréchal and Salines, the algae have been removed.

A new truck for collection

In Saint-Martin, the Executive Council decided, unanimously, to approve the project to purchase a truck intended for the collection and evacuation of sargassum. The budget is 125.000 euros and should be 80% funded by the state.
