POLICY / Vocational training: “win-win” partnership between the Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin Regions

A partnership agreement was signed on Monday February 13 between Louis Mussington, president of the Collectivité, and Ary Chalus, president of the Guadeloupe Region, in order to develop vocational training in our territory with, among other things, the creation of a Nursing Training Institute.

Accompanied by the Guadeloupe delegation, including Vice-President Chantal Lérus and the adviser in charge of training Jennifer Linon, Ary Chalus has undertaken, within the framework of inter-island cooperation, to support the Collectivity of Saint-Martin in the creation of a Nursing Training Institute (IFSI) which should see the light of day in September 2023. Three potential sites, the location of which has not been communicated, are currently under study for this project. For Ary Chalus, this is a "win-win" partnership, Saint-Martin being a tourist destination for Guadeloupe, and vice versa. Louis Mussington shares his counterpart's desire to work together in the interest of the population and for the revaluation of young people through easier access to employment.

At a time when the next 2022-2028 training plan contract is on the table, this strategic agreement signed in the presence of territorial elected officials is part of this perspective of increasing the skills of Saint-Martin residents through concrete actions and a training offer. adapted. The stakes of this partnership reside in the implementation of the territorial intervention strategy in the fields of training, employment, apprenticeship, orientation; technical support for the construction of new services and accessible, qualitative and efficient tools, whether for job seekers but also for agents of the Collectivity who work in the field of vocational training. But also technical support for a better implementation and analysis of PACTE conventions, training in the health and social field without forgetting an optimization of the use of European funds for the financing of training, professional mobility and strengthening the link between employment, guidance and training. Louis Mussington had announced it at the start of his term of office, the creation of an IFSI in Saint-Martin was at the heart of his concerns: "There is a demand in the territory and we must respond to it to allow Saint-Martin residents to to be trained on site and to access nursing positions on the island". In addition to access to training, it is also a question of allowing young people from Saint-Martin to stay on the territory to practice their profession, thus making up for the lack of personnel in the medico-social sector. With this  agreement now signed, the two local authorities are working pragmatically so that the first Saint-Martin IFSI, with a capacity of around thirty places, sees the light of day. The Collectivité of Saint-Martin is currently awaiting State approval for allocated quotas. The Guadeloupe Region will provide its expertise in the field with logistical and technical support. At the same time, four university courses, including a license pro-organization and management of hotel and catering establishments as well as training in public administration, will be accessible to all public in evening classes, at the rate of thirty places per session. _VX
