On Friday July 7, Vice-Admiral Olivier Coupry, Superior Commander of the Armed Forces in the Antilles, had frigate captain Gaëtan Gayraud recognized as the new commander of the surveillance frigate (FS) Germinal. He succeeds Commander Michael Vaxelaire.

Joining the Navy in 1997, Commander Gaëtan Gayraud is a field and operations man. Patented marine commando, parachutist instructor or board diver, the CF Gayraud has been deployed in many theaters of operations including TAAF for the fisheries police, the Indian Ocean for Operation Enduring Freedom and Africa de West for Operation Corymbe and for operations against drug trafficking. Surfacier, the frigate captain Gayraud embarked on the light stealth frigate Courbet, on the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and finally aboard the projection and command building Diksmuide. His operational culture, his expertise in State action at sea, working in inter-administration and interallied will be more than beneficial for the execution of his new functions as commander of a surveillance frigate, specialist of the hunt for drug traffickers at sea. The frigate captain Gaëtan Gayraud is a knight of the Legion of Honor, decorated with the cross of military value with a citation and the gold medal of National Defense with two citations. Passionate about trails and hikes, his assignment in the Antilles will undoubtedly satisfy him thanks to a rich nature and a certain dynamism for these sports in Martinique._AF
