Two days of training and awareness-raising in road safety organized at the Soualiga college

The island of Saint Martin has known for many years a catastrophic situation in terms of road safety. Dangerous behavior on the road, aggravated by addictions to psychotropic products, generates numerous bodily accidents and fatalities in road traffic. Adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 are often the victims of these road tragedies.

Faced with this situation, the prefecture, the National Education Service of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, the community of Saint-Martin wished to put in place a real risk reduction policy as part of the the city. At the initiative of the Soualiga College, the SXM Road Safety Association, chaired by Thierry Verres, led two days of training and awareness raising on Road Safety on November 16 and 17, 2021. The COBRACED association reinforced these actions through the provision of "Idéasbox" boxes from Library Without Borders.

This action made it possible to sensitize more than 140 students of the third year classes in two days through training workshops organized on the following themes: the fight against addictions to psychotropic drugs, the highway code with a strong focus on the two wheels, the installation of a two-wheel simulator and a motorized platform run by a partner driving school (driving a real 49,9 cm3 scooter).

These middle school students from neighborhoods classified in city policy or in active city policy monitoring clearly appreciated these training courses and will be keen to comply with these safety instructions once on the road.
