Poisoning an animal: what the law says
In the case of poisoning, article 655-1 of the Penal Code punishes the voluntary and needless death of a pet with a fine of € 1 and € 500 in the event recurrence.
However, killing a pet can be more severely punished. According to article 521-1 of the Penal Code, the fact, “publicly or not, of exercising serious abuses, […] or of committing an act of cruelty towards a domestic animal, or tamed, or held in captivity, is punished by two years imprisonment and a fine of € 30 ”.
