Covid-19: Public Health France takes stock of the circulation of the virus in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands

1

Santé Publique France has just published a study on the evolution of Covid-19 in Guadeloupe and in the Northern Islands since deconfinement. The virus is circulating, but weakly. However, vigilance is required due to the resumption of air traffic and medical evacuations from Guyana.

Since the emergence of the Covid-19 disease, 194 cases have been confirmed in Guadeloupe, 46 in Saint-Martin and 6 in Saint-Barthélemy. That is a total of 246 cases.

The positivity rates are less than 2%. Very low values, according to Public Health France, well below the vigilance threshold of 5%. According to health authorities, the screening rate is however high in each territory.

During the last 4 weeks, the incidence rates are also well below the vigilance threshold of 10 per 100 inhabitants.

The data reported by Public Health France reveal very few consultations in town for an acute respiratory infection for several weeks. Those attributable to Covid-19 are zero.

As for the emergency services, they have not recorded any passage for suspicion of Covid-19 for several weeks.

The surveillance data therefore confirms low noise circulation of the virus across all of our territories. However, the resumption of air traffic and medical evacuations in support of Guyana, requires maintaining careful and reactive surveillance in order to avoid a risk of community or nosocomial transmission of the virus (secondary transmission from these imported cases) and the occurrence of clusters at risk of dissemination in the West Indian population.

3 patients in intensive care, from Guyana

The intensive care unit of the Guadeloupe CHU has received six patients from Guyana since June 28. Three of them are still hospitalized to this day in the service.

17 people have died from COVID-19 since the virus appeared, 14 in Guadeloupe and 3 in Saint-Martin

Good morning all. Given the number of cases on the Dutch side (3 + 13 = 16), this excess of optimism is worrying. We could soon be disillusioned given the carelessness of our fellow citizens.
