Keeping pace with hurricane forecasts

Tropical waves follow each other but are not alike. Following tropical storms Joséphine and Kyle, a new disturbance is currently being watched by forecasters.

After the passage in the night from Monday to Tuesday and to the south of the West Indian arc of a new tropical wave, the eyes of forecasters have now turned to yet another disturbance. Located off the African coast, the tropical wave could meet on its route conditions favorable to its development, estimates the National Hurricane Center. As a result, a tropical depression could form in the middle or weekend, as the West Indian arc approaches, explains the NHC. If the intensity and trajectory forecasts will be refined over the next few days, a passage over the northern half of the arc is considered. The disturbance could approach the islands of the West Indies at the end of the week.
