Le Germinal, the French Navy surveillance frigate, set sail on August 18 to reach Haiti over the weekend
The 7,2 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Saturday August 14, 2021 exacerbates an already difficult humanitarian situation. The armies, relying on the system of sovereignty forces present in the Antilles, deploy the Germinal Surveillance Frigate (FS) to transport humanitarian freight. The frigate takes on board a Panther helicopter from the 36F Flotilla and 25 soldiers from the 33e Marine Infantry Regiment (33rd RIMA). The following were loaded on board the frigate:
14 tonnes of freight, representing a volume of 50m3 (essential goods), provided by the American-Caribbean Regional Intervention Platform (PIRAC) of the French Red Cross in partnership with the crisis and support center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs;
18 tonnes of freight, representing a volume of 32m3, supplied by the Bernard Hayot / Carrefour group (25 pallets of water);
15 tonnes of freight from the Martinique local authority (drinking water).
The Germinal set sail on August 18 to reach Haiti on August 21. In addition, in partnership with the Tulipe association, specializing in pharmaceutical equipment, the Crisis and Support Center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs will deliver to Haiti 30 boxes of emergency drugs (1,7 tonnes ) which will be given by our embassy to partner organizations in the health sector. In order to ensure the proper delivery of humanitarian aid to the affected populations, France is stepping up its support to the World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS), as well as to the French NGO Atlas Logistics specializing in the deployment of humanitarian aid. France is also contributing to the deployment of the coordination team within the framework of the European civil protection mechanism to come to the aid of the victims. 2 civil security personnel are part of this team. In addition, the French civil security has proposed sending a water purification module with 40 personnel and 22 tonnes of equipment. “France's commitment to Haiti remains intact, as evidenced by the doubling of food aid since the start of the year. France remains mobilized to obtain a re-engagement of the international community to help Haiti recover from the earthquake and come out of the crisis, ”reports the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
