The Grand Thornton Championship of the season consists of 4 distinct series, the Soons, Aberson, Hoedemaker and Hope Ross series. Each of its series is played over two days.

Thus, 23 competitors took part, last Saturday, in the first day of the Hoedemaker Series of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC), a competition which is part of the Grant Thornton Dinghy season championship. A day that turned out to be difficult for the competitors, due to the very windy and unstable conditions.

4 races started in the Simpson Bay lagoon, in which the Friar's Bay Sailing Club and the Saint-Barths Yacht Club also participated.

In the RS Zest sailboat category, Veronica Destin won, and in the RS Quest class, Antonin, from Saint-Barthélemy, won for this first day.

In the Optimist category, 10 competitors competed. In the end, Emilien Le Normand, from the Friar's Bay Sailing Club, ranks 3rd  with 15 points, Marvin Febrissy from SMYC is in 2nd place, with 10 points, and Lolie Osswold, from Saint-Barthélemy, climbs to 1st  step of the podium, with 6 points.

The Laser category saw the participation of 9 competitors. Frits Bus, Emma Lennox and Justin Pieters are ranked 3rd, 2nd respectively  and 1st of this first day of racing.

Note that the second day of the Hoedemaker Series will take place on January 22.
