An agreement to ensure the safety of port users

The port establishment manages both the commercial port of Galisbay and the ferry terminal, from which each year there are 5 rotations with Anguilla and 000 with Saint-Barthélemy.

“Since the port does not have its own rescue services at sea, it was important to put in place an agreement with the SNSM so that in the event of a major accident, it could deploy the means necessary to intervene quickly. Not only during the day, but especially in the event of a night layover, ”says Albéric Ellis, the port director.

This agreement, signed Thursday February 21 between Ambroise Lake, president of the board of directors of the port and René-Jean Duret president of the Saint-Martin resort, under the watchful eye of Xavier de la Gorce, president of the SNSM, list the obligations and responsibilities of each. For example, it stipulates that the SNSM has training obligations with the port services.

If SNSM team members are volunteers, the equipment and its maintenance have a cost. The agreement therefore provides that the port pays an annual contribution to the station, the amount of which "deemed" reasonable "by René-Jean Duret, must still be validated by the port's board of directors. "It is a way to contribute to the survival of this important resort for the territory," says Albéric Ellis.
