Saint-Martin had, before Cyclone Irma, 17 Guest Houses, 12 of which were labeled following the adoption of a benchmark for classification of Guest Houses launched by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin in 2014.
Following the passage of cyclone Irma in September 2017, the tourist accommodation park in Saint-Martin experienced significant material damage, no longer allowing normal reception for customers and maintaining employment, including Guest Houses. Post Irma there were 4 open structures for around thirty beds. In November 2018, there were 12 open establishments, including 7 classified establishments and 5 unclassified establishments. A total of 53 rooms.
The State, the managing authority of the European Regional Economic Development Fund (ERDF), is launching, in addition to exceptional assistance, € 2 per room from the Territorial Community of Saint-Martin, for the renovation and rehabilitation of accommodation classified as " Guest Houses ”, a call for projects on the creation, renovation and reconstruction for this classified and unclassified accommodation category.
The objectives of the call for projects
The purpose of this call for projects is to facilitate the creation, renovation and reconstruction of classified and unclassified Guest Houses in the region following the passage of cyclone IRMA and to support and encourage individual initiatives contributing to the development of an innovative offer 2 and of quality allowing to improve the attractiveness of the destination Saint-Martin and to attract a new tourist clientele.
This involves providing direct support to these establishments through aid for tangible and intangible investment, helping to support the launch of new service offers and encouraging unclassified Guest Houses to subscribe to a quality approach in line with the territorial planning and tourist development plan for reconstruction 2017-2027 of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin. This aid should also make it possible to continue the effort to upgrade the already classified Guest Houses.
This call for projects has been open since Tuesday, November 27, 2018. It will be closed by right on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 13:00 p.m., deadline for submission of files. • the set of documents requested in the file
