At the start of the January 2022 school year at the latest, Quartier d'Orléans will have a 100% digital college. Work begins in early 2021.

Originally built for a limited period, in prefabricated modules and in a flood zone, the Collège de Quartier d'Orléans, damaged by Cyclone Irma, will soon be razed and will make way for a modern establishment, capable of responding to requirements imposed by its classification in REP + (reinforced priority education network). This project, born of an exchange between President Daniel Gibbs and representatives of National Education, has a budget of 10 M €. Financial support is provided by the French overseas ministry (€ 3,2 million), Europe via the ERDF (€ 5,2 million) and the Collectivité to the tune of € 1,6 million. This new college will educate 600 students in 34 classes. As required by the REP + status, small classes, personalized support for students and homework help will be easily deployed in new and equipped premises.

The comfort of college students taken into account

Entirely digital, connected to fiber, the college will provide tablets to college students and the classes will be fully equipped with digital boards and projectors. Children with specialized educational needs will have access to specific education: two sections - botanical garden / horticulture and fast food - will give these young people the opportunity to prepare for their professional integration. The architectural competition was opened on December 18, 2019 and, at the end of the various administrative and technical phases, the winner was unanimously chosen by the jury on July 7, 2020. The health crisis generated a delay of 4 months compared to the initial schedule and everything will be done to open the college as quickly as possible. A very precise specification, in which the comfort of the students occupied a preponderant place, made it possible to select, the West Indies Architecture firm of Didier Rouault. The college will be fully air conditioned. It will include a friendly catering area and a large place will be given to green spaces. As for physical education, the gymnasium and the dojo - the only one on the island - located near the college, will remain open on weekends to the delight of gymnasts and martial arts enthusiasts. Finally, the building will be raised to avoid any flooding. A beautiful college, intended to optimize the academic success of the children of Quartier d'Orléans.
