Tyra Els: glory in NY

0

Tyra Els is certainly in heaven: after an audition, the Saint-Martin dancer was selected to play at the beginning of December in the ballet “Memoria” at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT), a contemporary dance company located in New York. For this ballet, the young woman was invited to audition with 150 other students of the Alvin Ailey school, renowned choreographer. His essay was therefore conclusive: Tyra and 25 other candidates were thus chosen, according to the Daily Herald. Memoria, choreographed in 1979, is “a deeply personal and one of the most touching work” by this artist who died in 1989, who created more than 70 ballets with this company, according to the AAADT website. He also received an American dance festival award for his career in 1987. It should be noted that last August, the port of Sint Maarten - which supports the development of the arts in the region - supported the young dancer within the framework of his fundraising gala in order to finance his studies in the United States. _EH
