COURT: Neighborhood conflict in Grand-Case: a man sentenced to four months in prison suspended

0

Thursday, February 2, a man, JB. R., a native of Saint Lucia was on trial at the Saint-Martin criminal court, after a neighborhood dispute which had degenerated on July 22, 2022 rue des Ecoles, in Grand-Case.

It was a neighborhood dispute that was at the heart of the first case judged yesterday at the Saint-Martin local court (note: many cases that were on the agenda were postponed to July or September 2023 for lack of sufficient staff, in this case court clerks).

This umpteenth dispute between two neighbors which has lasted for many months has this time taken on more serious proportions with acts of violence committed with a machete. Indeed, the perpetrator who had himself been attacked by his neighbor on June 10, 2022 saw red the following month by hitting the latter with a machete which caused slight injuries to the head and hand. of the victim. A story of delimitation of the two properties would be at the origin of this old neighborhood conflict where everything is an excuse to make sparks.

“It is high time for this conflict to end”, warns the judge, Françoise Mariaux. This story is going to end badly! »

Aware of the seriousness of the facts, the defendant admitted having exceeded the limits and made a commitment not to repeat the offense despite the provocations and repeated threats from his neighbour.

"The good reflex would have been to call the police before the situation escalates", underlines for her part the prosecutor, Christelle Bellet.

Given the criminal record of JB.R. (legal recidivism of May 9, 2019), the public prosecutor requires two months in prison and a ban on carrying a weapon for five years.

After deliberation, the court ultimately sentenced JB.R. to four months in prison suspended on probation for a period of two years with a ban on coming into contact with his neighbor and on possessing a weapon for five years.

“This is the last time I will see you in front of me”, underlines the president of the court to JB.R. “In case of the next recidivism, you will go directly to prison! ". _AF
