TRANSPORT: A technical control will be implemented locally

0

No one had realized this administrative loophole until it created certain problems. In May last year, a new technical inspection of cars was introduced, which was more demanding and aimed at strengthening prevention and road safety. The only center in Saint-Martin which operates a national brand applies it. Counter-visits are increasing and the authorities are seizing the matter. And will confirm that the new technical control is not applicable to Saint-Martin.

In Saint-Martin, it is indeed the Collectivity which legislates in matters of technical control and not the State as in mainland or in the DOMs, because it has the competence road traffic and transport. However, even, in the event that the two centers would like to apply local regulations, technically speaking they could not because the COM has never established the rules it would like on its territory.

In other words, technical control is compulsory in Saint-Martin, but its procedures and the list of points to be checked do not appear in any document from the COM. However, in this kind of situation, local measures that pre-date jurisdiction are applied locally. The technical inspection in its 2012 version must therefore apply to Saint-Martin. In this context, the COM wishes to mandate a consulting firm to support it in this process of setting up technical control. It is a question of establishing the points to be checked and above all of creating the tools which will have to be used by the approved centers. (illustration photo. soualigapost.com)
