The collaboration between the customs service and the Alpha team, during a joint control, allowed the seizure of a large quantity of gold bars. The shipment was discovered on a private aircraft from Venezuela.
The incident took place on Sunday July 14, around 16:45 p.m., at Princess Juliana Airport when customs officials and Alpha team personnel checked a private plane. The ingots, of considerable value, were all confiscated after the police realized that the documents concerning this gold were not in order. The Attorney General was informed of the situation and it was decided to ask the Alpha team to continue the investigation. Following the investigation, the Venezuelan plane was also seized. Suspected of money laundering, the pilot, the co-pilot and several other persons were questioned. The investigation is still underway to determine the source of the gold bars.
