In order to support the local economy, the Saint-Martin tourist office launched Operation Staycation last June.

The tourist office had released a budget of 500 euros. He set himself the goal of distributing 000 vouchers of 2 euros each to spend in hotels, 000 vouchers of 100 € in restaurants, 5 vouchers of 000 € in activities. In addition, the Interprofessional Consular Chamber of Saint-Martin (CCISM) had wished to participate in the operation by contributing up to 30 euros, or 5 vouchers of 000 € to spend in the stores. A total of 30 euros in vouchers were available. They were to be spent with professionals who had asked to be partners, namely 15 hotels, 000 restaurants, 1 activities and 500 stores.

During the two-month Staycation period, 4 people (844% of whom are island residents) have benefited. A little more than two-thirds of the budget was spent, or 95 euros, according to the report presented Thursday morning, by Aïda Weinum and Bhanicia Bryan, respectively director of the tourist office and in charge of mission within the CCISM.

The president of the office, Valérie Damaseau, says she is "satisfied" with this first edition; as for the CCISM, it qualifies as “correct but timid” the participation of the number of traders.

Staycation made it possible to inject into the local economy practically twice as much as the 347 euros paid by the TO and the CCISM. In fact, the customers benefiting from the vouchers generated 610 euros in additional revenue from the 679 partner companies. Thanks to the operation, the total turnover achieved is 816 million euros. (soualigapost.com)
