Tourism: Vaccination, a major issue for the resumption of tourism in Saint-Martin

For the Saint-Martin Tourism Club, vaccination is a major issue for a destination. "In the very short term, it will be a requirement, whether we agree or not," said Patrice Seguin, the president of the association during a press conference organized last Friday.

Club members gathered the press to raise awareness of the importance of getting vaccinated.

“Today three out of four customers arrive at the hotel telling us that they are vaccinated and asking us if we are,” says the director of Samana. “The question is asked more and more,” she notes. For members of the tourism club, "this is part of the new rules of the game and the penalties will be severe."

“We were lucky to reopen very early, to have been able to welcome tourists. But in a few weeks all the destinations will have reopened and a selection will be made. Only the so-called safe destinations because they have a high vaccination rate, will be sold and favored by tourists. They will focus their communication on that, ”adds the director of La Playa.

If tourism professionals believe they have been able to get by so far, they believe that if the population does not get vaccinated, the consequences on the economy could be serious. “Until now, we have survived thanks to state aid. But they will be deleted as we return to normal life. And if we have no clients and no more help, it will be a disaster, ”they want to explain. (soualigapost.com)
