Overseas territories: towards the end of the “Chirac tax”?

0

In new reading, on the finance bill for 2016, the deputy of the North Islands Daniel Gibbs led the government last Friday on a completely different ground in the National Assembly: the exemption from the solidarity tax called "tax Chirac ”for flights of a distance of less than 50 km for overseas territories. The member took the example of a passenger going from Saint-Barthélemy to Juliana airport. “This airport is considered to be a non-European airport, since it is located in Sint Maarten, the Dutch twin OCT of Saint-Martin la Française RUP. Consequence: the passenger must pay a tax of 4,51 euros, the same amount as the passenger who would make a Paris-Tokyo. The application of this tax is thus more problematic in overseas and especially in the Northern Islands. In fact, apart from the sea, the plane is the only means of transport between islands which are sometimes a few tens of kilometers apart. ”
