Proud of the success of the first edition in March 2022 at the Vanterpool stadium, the "Handynamic" project repeated the feat by setting up shop last Saturday on the Galion beach with "Handisplash" and a focus on water sports.
As a reminder, "Handynamic" is a project funded by the Regional Academic Delegation for Youth, Engagement and Sports (DRAJES), Motorworld, the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin and the Union Sportive de l' Primary Education (USEP) which brings together several associations on the island to organize sporting events adapted to children with disabilities. The first edition of this inter-associative initiative was led by the Saint Martin Football League (LFSM). This time, it was Metimer who organized the event, baptized “Handisplash” for its reference to water sports. About thirty able-bodied children joined the sixty children with disabilities in order to facilitate interactions between able-bodied people and people with reduced mobility and to try their hand at sports such as surfing (SXM Surf Club), paddle (Wind Adventures), swimming / bathing (with the presence of Wendy Gumbs from the Community Sports Department), paddle yoga, beach tennis (Kakao Beach-Club) and beach soccer (Football League) with, for children, total freedom in the choice of activity and time spent. A lunch and a snack were distributed by the organizing team and the volunteers. Children with disabilities were invited to participate in “Handisplash” through the Tournesol and Cobraced associations, SESSAD (Special Education and Home Care Service) and USEP. Specialized educators were present for children who require special supervision. From 9 a.m. to 14 p.m., Galion beach vibrated to the enthusiastic cries of children. Fabien Sésé, secretary general of the prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint Martin, went to the site to meet the organizers and welcome a project like "Handynamic" given the lack of structures adapted for children with disabilities. The third edition whose theme is not yet confirmed is already in preparation. _VX
