Society: The challenges of the Saint-Martin Land Use and Development Plan

0

In the continuity of the first works initiated in January 2020, the Collectivity organized a series of 5 participatory workshops for the general public, from October 5 to 8, 2021, in order to allow the population to participate in the development of the future Development Plan and of Development of Saint-Martin (PADSM). This planning document must reflect the vision for the development of the territory over the next 10 years.

To build its PADSM, the Collectivity has enlisted the services of the Cittanova expert cabinet. These workshops welcomed around twenty participants per session. It is not much, but it made it possible to work in small groups on the challenges of this planning. The team of the Cadre de Vie delegation in charge of leading the workshops first presented the diagnosis of the work of January 2021, then addressed the environmental issues of the years to come: global warming, the fight against pollution, the shortage of drinking water, the preservation of unbuilt spaces or even waste management.

The question of the preservation of natural spaces was the subject of extensive discussions, in particular the way of combining tourist development with the preservation of the natural heritage, and the protection of the fauna and flora of Saint-Martin.

Demography, health, taking into account local specificities, energy savings, equipment and infrastructure to be provided for the years to come, are also at the heart of the discussions carried out in the framework of the development of PADSM. Just like the opening up of neighborhoods, means of transport, preservation of buildings, building areas and town planning of the territory or its attractiveness, which are factors to be taken into account.

Rich exchanges, which made it possible to bring together the first complaints and proposals of the citizens.

The development of PADSM is a long-term project that is built collectively. In any case, this is the will of President Daniel Gibbs, who wants this planning document to be concerted, understood by all and adapted to the current and future needs of Saint-Martin.

All of the documents relating to the Saint-Martin Land Use and Development Plan are available in a section specific to PADSM, on the Community's website: www.com-saint-martin.fr
