SOCIETY: Launch of construction work on the new 600 middle school in Quartier d'Orléans

On July 25, Louis Mussington, president of the Collectivity, and other officials met the team in charge of the titanic construction site set up at the 600 college in Quartier d'Orléans. The work, budgeted at 22 million euros, has finally begun and should be completed in at least three years.

Financed by the State via the Ministry of Overseas and the convergence contract, Europe via the Feder funds and the Collectivity of Saint Martin, the site was therefore launched on July 20 with the first phase of demolition. The construction project on an occupied site, given that the Quartier d'Orléans college remains active during the academic year, is taking shape in a logic of sustainable development with greening of recreational spaces, educational garden, natural ventilation of the premises by orienting the buildings as much as possible facing the prevailing winds for a maximum contribution of thermal comfort for interior spaces, photovoltaic resin, rainwater cistern, responsible materials, all on a building surface of 6000 m². A 300 m² cyclone shelter for the district will be located on the administration floor. President Louis Mussington, Third Vice-President Dominique Louisy and Senator Annick Pétrus were on site on July 25 with State services including Christian Climent-Pons, project director to the rector of the Guadeloupe Academy and responsible for monitoring the reconstruction of the education system of Saint-Martin, the services of the COM, the project manager, the architect Céline Dherbomez de Wia Architecture, the service providers and the head of the establishment, Leela Hanson, in order to visualize the work to come, visit the site and meet the young people who work there. Indeed, 10340 hours of integration are deployed on this project, making it possible to employ young people from the territory for the entire duration of the project, which runs for a minimum of three years (44 months on the longest scheme). The challenges are multiple: to create equipment integrated into existing and preserved buildings that is functional, easy to use and user-friendly with, for example, the construction of a gymnasium-dojo which operates independently of the college and which will be accessible outside school hours. The site is divided into 4 phases: construction of the Administration, school life, infirmary, 11 classrooms; construction of the gymnasium-dojo and 12 classrooms; construction of the refectory, SEGPA, Pôle Sciences and 12 other classrooms; and finally, maintenance, road finishing and miscellaneous network (VRD) and exterior fittings. _VX
