SOCIAL/CRAFTS: The Bricobus of the Compagnons Bâtisseurs charts its course

0

The solidarity association inaugurated its Bricobus and its itinerant neighborhood workshops on July 29th. Every month since then, a workshop has been organized within the SIKOA social park. The next one will take place this Friday, September 30 at 9 a.m. at Concordia.

Present in Saint-Martin since 2018, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs work to support the population in an active civic approach that has become essential in the area. Housing experts offer an anthology of DIY workshops, home renovation or beautification, solidarity work sites for road safety, tool loans and educational repairs. Recently, new themes have joined the association's workshop program: plaster decoration, making concrete flower pots, making soap or candles, not to mention the essential carpentry, painting or plumbing workshops. With two drop-off points to run their workshops in Quartier d'Orléans and Sandy Ground, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs wanted to reach out even more to the population of Saint-Martin. The project came to fruition last July with the inauguration of the Bricobus, a converted bus used to run mobile workshops. The itinerant neighborhood workshop was created thanks to a partnership agreement with the social landlord SIKOA which made it possible to deploy the Bricobus within their social park in Concordia. For the first activity on July 29, 2022, the inhabitants of the Hibiscus and Spring residences tried their hand at DIY and carpentry by building bedside tables and flower pots, guided by the Compagnons Bâtisseurs facilitators, Fabrice and François. For the second session of the Bricobus, painting joined the carpentry last August 26, and there were many participants. Never two without three, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs are doing it again this Friday, September 30 from 9 a.m. to noon, still in the social park at Concordia, Hibiscus and Spring residences. This time, the workshop will revolve around plumbing: learn how to carry out small repairs yourself such as changing a flushing system, part of the piping, dismantling the siphon of a sink, replacing a tap to repair a leak and even change a seal. Small jobs that will allow everyone to learn more and be able to rely on their knowledge to solve the problem. The Compagnons Bâtisseurs are there to pass on their knowledge and expertise in the fields of housing, in joy and good humor. If the tenants of SIKOA residences remain a priority on the registration list for a Bricobus workshop, it is also accessible to the rest of the population. Go for it. _VX
