SOCIAL / Psychological and legal support for people affected by France Victimes

After Irma's visit, France Victimes mobilized and sent teams to Saint-Martin in support of the Trait d'Union association.

In the field, the teams go into contact with the population to provide them with two types of support after Irma's visit: psychological support and legal support. “The memory of the hurricane is really strong. People still have flashes, are afraid when they hear noise. Which is entirely consistent; this is what victims of assaults, attacks, etc. feel. These are people who thought they were dying, ”comments Olivia Mons. "It is therefore essential to detect this trauma, which is why we have specialist psychologists on the ground," she adds.

Alongside Trait d'Union, France Victimes supports disaster victims in their social and legal procedures. The teams answer questions concerning insurance, the lease, housing, employment, assistance systems, writing administrative letters, etc. “We are here to answer their questions and have their rights recognized, which they may not know. We support them in the process, ”says Jean-Marie Thévenet, president of Trait d'Union.
