The number of visiting tourists more than doubled in December compared to November. According to data released by the government of Sint Maarten, 13 people came on vacation in December compared to 490 the previous month, the month which recorded the highest attendance rate since the start of the health crisis and an increase of nearly 6% compared to October. This trend was confirmed in January with 725 tourists. In three months, Sint Maarten welcomed as many tourists as in January 44, i.e. 12.

The attendance in December 2020 and January 2021 is similar to that observed in early 2018 when the island slowly reopened to tourism after Hurricane Irma. Since September 2017, she has never recovered to her previous level.

In 2019, attendance was 319, 700 times less than five years earlier. In January 1,5, the number of tourists had further increased by 2020% compared to January 19 to reach 2019 tourists, but still remained 31% lower than in 490. In high season before Irma, the island hosted an average of 40 to 2014 tourists per month, in the mid-season of the order of 50 to 000 per month and in the low season between 55 and 000.

From November to January, 55% of tourists were from the United States, 35% from Europe (including 23% from France) and 8% from the Caribbean. (soualigapost.com)
