More than 200 new cases last week partly Dutch

Last Friday, the mark of 3 cumulative cases of covid-500 was almost reached in the Dutch part: 19 people have tested positive since the start of the pandemic.

Last week *, 209 new cases were confirmed (in 6 days) compared to 235 the previous week (7 days), an almost similar number of new cases. Since the beginning of August, 624 people have been infected with covid-19 in part Dutch, a very high level and never reached before. The authorities explain this by the presence of the Delta variant, which is much more contagious.

Authorities also deplored the deaths of people last week, bringing the total death toll to 42. Since the beginning of the month, 8 people have died after being infected with covid-19.

Last Friday, 15 patients were hospitalized in Philipsburg, 318 people were in quarantine because they were contact cases. As for the number of active cases, it was 315 against 345 six days earlier.

VACCINATION

While the vaccination campaign against covid-19 had started at a very sustained pace in part Dutch since in the space of almost two and a half months, nearly 20 doses had been administered including 900 of firsts, and that this rate had been observed until mid-July, since then there has been a slowdown in the first doses injected.

Between mid-July and this day, only 1 first doses have been administered according to bulletins issued by the government of Sint Maarten. In total to date, 362 people have received a first dose and 25 who have been fully vaccinated.

Sint Maarten's goal was to vaccinate 85% of its eligible population, or 44 people. Today, 100% of this goal has been achieved.

However, the authorities recently revised the eligible population base by 10 to 440 (from 62). 323% of this part of the population have a complete vaccination schedule and 51% have received a first injection.
