On Sunday, November 20, around 5 a.m., the Sint Maarten police telephone switchboard received calls reporting that a man was lying on the side of the road in Sucker Garden, and that he was not giving any sign of life.
Dispatched to the scene, police officers discovered a man who was already deceased, near the intersection of Arch Road and Sucker Garden. According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim was hit by a vehicle which fled after the impact.
The investigations carried out by the police made it possible to quickly find on Sunday the driver suspected of being at the origin of this drama of the road.
The police first spotted the driver's vehicle abandoned in the Princess district before arresting him later in the day.
The alleged perpetrator of this fatal accident was taken to the police station for custody. He faces many years in prison.
The identity of the person who died tragically has not yet been released by the police. _AF
