The Causeway Bridge in Cole Bay has been closed to motor traffic since Monday and this “until further notice” indicate the authorities of Sint Maarten.
Monday afternoon as the bridge closed, a technical problem occurred. "The system malfunctioned, likely due to a power grid outage," authorities said. The apron was unable to close properly, which hinders the passage of cars in both directions. It was therefore decided to ban motorized traffic.
Technicians from NV GEBE, Electrec, as well as PSG staff supported by Hollandia staff in the Netherlands worked tirelessly until Monday evening to resolve the problem. They intervened again yesterday without success.
