Sint Maarten: National Alliance wins early elections before UP

The National Alliance emerged victorious from the legislative elections of January 2020 with 4 votes out of the 694 votes cast.

Justice Minister Egbert Jurendy Doran set a new record by obtaining the most votes. The latter obtained 843 votes while the head of the Prime Minister of the National Alliance, Silveria Jacobs obtained 753 votes with the number two candidate Christopher Emmanuel 687 votes.

For his part, former party leader William Marlin won 345 votes.

Of the 15 seats in Parliament, the National Alliance obtained 6 seats, the UP 4 seats, the USP 2 seats, the PFP 2 seats and UD 1 seat.

To have an absolute majority, the National Alliance will have to deal with the minority parties…

With the preliminary results that were announced Friday at 4:30 a.m., the Parliament of Saint Martin has a whole new face. The SMCP would not have obtained a seat in Parliament.

The UP Party and its new leader, MP Rolando Brison, won 3 votes. UP number 232 candidate Grisha Marten Heyliger got 4 votes while Brison got 656.

Newcomer to politics, candidate number 3, Omar Ottley won 418 votes by defeating MPs, Bijlani and Mercelina. Member of Parliament Bijlani obtained 290 votes while Mercelina obtained 248.

The American party led by MP Frans Richardson stayed the course, obtaining 1 votes. However, number 759 candidate Claudius Buncamper scored more than his party leader. Buncamper got 2 votes and Richardson  212 votes, Akeem Arrindell and Chanel Brownbill obtained 229 and 224 votes respectively.

The head of the United Democrats, Sarah Wescot Williams, survived the competition and is the only one who was re-elected to Parliament on the UD list with 353 votes.

The newcomer to Parliament comes from the PFP with its leader Melissa Gumbs who obtained 559 votes and Raeyhon Peterson with 219 votes.

Based on the results of last Thursday's election, several deputies will not return to Parliament, namely the head of the USP Frans Richardson, the deputy Luc Mercelina of the UP and Wycliffe Smith of the SMCP.

The following 15 candidates will be presented to Parliament on the basis of the preliminary results.

The NA list, Egbert Jurendy Doran (843), Silveria Jacobs (753) Christophe Emmanuel (687) William Marlin (390) Ardwell Irion (345) and Rodolphe Samuel (248)

The UP list Grisha Marten Heyliger (656) Rolando Brison (488), Omar Ottley (418) and Sidharth Bijlani (290).

The USP list has two new members: Claudius Buncamper (301) and Akeem Arrindell (229) while the PFP won two seats with its leader Melissa Gumbs (559) and Raeyhon Peterson (229) and Sarah Wescot Williams of the UD with (353).

Finally, note that of the 23106 registered voters, only 59% voted, which represents 13744 voters. _AF
