SECURITY / An ongoing reflection on the installation of a customs police cooperation center on the island

At the borders in mainland France, the police, customs and gendarmerie share "a center" with their counterparts. It is a center for police and customs cooperation (CCPD). There are ten in France but none in Overseas.

"Our three main areas of cooperation concern irregular immigration, cross-border crime and public order", explains the CCPD French coordinator in the Pyrenees. This CCPD allows access to the files of the Spanish national police force.

This is what Lieutenant-Colonel Sébastien Manzoni would like to put in place in Saint-Martin in collaboration with Sint Maarten. "I will work on the conditions for setting up a CCPD locally in the coming months, but setting up is complex because we are not in the Schengen area," he explains.
