The association “Sécurité Routière SXM” intervened on April 11 and 12 at Concordia, in order to raise awareness and train in road safety 202 young students from the Mont des Accords college as part of the city policy carried out by the Prefecture. of Saint Barthélemy/Saint Martin and the Collectivity of Saint Martin, the PADSR Guadeloupe and the Fund for the Development of Associative Life.

Raising awareness and training in road safety for young people is essential in order to limit dangerous behavior on the road.

Thus, these 202 college students, all residents of between Sandy-Ground and Marigot, participated in several workshops with the sole objective of preventing them from being one day victim or perpetrator of a serious or fatal road traffic accident. Code of the road linked to two wheels, fight against addictions (narcotics and alcohol), scenario on a two-wheel simulator and finally a road trip on a 50cm3 scooter.

The Cobraced association, the Red Cross, the driving school Help Conduite and the Judicial Protection of the Youth of Saint-Martin present during these days, participate in the success of these interventions.

The "Sécurité Routière SXM" association also intervenes with the 1200 pupils of the 8 primary schools on the island for the training of the youngest in the first education in road safety within the framework of the City Policy in partnership with the of National Education.

Since January 1, 2022, more than 450 students in CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes have received 8 hours of theoretical and practical road safety training, corresponding to APER training.

The next two road safety days will be held next May in the Grand-Case sector.

If road safety involves the implementation of a series of levers, it is important that, as soon as possible, young people become aware of the responsibilities involved when they find themselves behind the wheel of a two-wheeler.

This is the mission of the “Sécurité Routière SXM” association chaired by Thierry Verres, which works daily in schools to ensure the safety of young people when they become road users. _AF
