Road safety: The gendarmerie is hunting down speeding tickets!

In order to fight against serious offenses causing accidents, the Saint-Martin gendarmes last Friday carried out speed checks between the Agrément roundabout and the Grand-Case Post Office.

Equipped with a laser radar, the police carried out several checks between 4 am and 30 am Friday morning. "Our objective is to make road users aware that speed limits must be respected in Saint-Martin", specifies the captain, Rodolphe Deneufgermain. “Here, all motorists and motorcyclists share one and the same road. This implies particular vigilance on the part of all users. At any moment, people are likely to cross the road, especially students leaving schools ”.

On the Savannah Straight, many serious and even fatal accidents have already been deplored in the recent past due to excessive speeds.

Friday, a motorist was checked at 100 km / h, or 50 km / h above the authorized speed. "We will continue to carry out this kind of operation against offenders who by their speeding endanger their own life as well as that of others," warns Captain Deneufgermain. _AF
