Sargassum: Three series of gas emission measurements carried out by the ARS in Saint-Martin

0

Three air quality measurements have been carried out by the regional health agency (ARS) since the beginning of July on the three main sites impacted by the stranding of Sargassum algae; these readings aimed at monitoring the emissions of toxic gases, mainly hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

The sites concerned are Cul de Sac Bay, Lucas Bay and Lamigeot in Quartier d'Orléans.

- Cul de Sac bay

On July 4, the ARS noted a rate of H2S of 3,9 ppm, on July 9 a rate of 2,9 ppm and on July 11 a rate of 2,9 ppm.

- Lucas Bay

On July 4, the ARS noted a rate of H2S of 3 ppm, on July 9 a rate below the detection threshold and on July 11 a rate of 3,7 ppm.

- Lamigeot, Orleans district

On July 4, the ARS noted a rate of H2S of 1,3 ppm, on July 9 a rate of 1,2 ppm and on July 11 a rate below the detection threshold.

Note that these readings correspond to observations made during spot measurements over 15 minutes and 5 meters from strandings. The alert threshold is 5 ppm.
