At around 21 p.m. on Saturday April 17, JS, a native of Dominica, caused an accident on the RN 7 near Savannah. He entered the back of a car and immediately fled.
The gendarmes will arrest him in Dutch Quarter, just after the border in the ditch. The driver lost control of the car during the turn. The individual was placed in police custody and summoned to the criminal court of Saint Martin under the immediate appearance procedure last Wednesday. One of the reasons which justified it is its irregular situation on the territory; the prefecture had been informed of the obligation to leave France, which he had not done. Due to the lawyers' strike movement, he could not be tried.
Pending his trial, the magistrates ordered his placement under judicial supervision as requested by the prosecution, with the obligation for the accused to fix his residence in French part with his uncle at Sandy Ground, to surrender his passport to the French authorities and to point out every day to the gendarmerie until the trial.
