Like every year, the November 11 festivities promise to be spectacular. The 2022 edition was no exception to the rule. A look back at this day which has now entered the annals of Saint-Martin with the Unity Flag adopted as an official cultural symbol.

The traditional day of celebrations for the patronal and cultural feast of Saint-Martin began at 8 a.m. with the ecumenical ceremony at the Methodist Church of the Tabernacle in Quartier d'Orléans followed by the laying of wreaths at the Monument de la Frontière with the entire delegation. official of Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten. The official procession then headed to the parking lot of the Thelbert Carti stadium for the official speeches, including that of Rodolphe Samuel, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports who invited Lasana Sekou to join him on stage to loud applause, Dominique Democrite Louisy, 3rd vice-president of the Collectivity, William V. Marlin, 1st vice-president of the parliament of Sint Maarten, Vincent Berton, delegate prefect of the Northern Islands who greeted this solemn celebration of the friendship under the sign of the shared culture of which he retained two strong terms, fraternity and integrity, and finally, Silveria Jacobs, Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, and Louis Mussington, President of the Collectivity, both expressed their pride to celebrate the Saint-Martin culture, not failing to tell a few anecdotes of yesteryear and to quote the great names in the history of Saint-Martin. The talented singer, Malaïka Maxwell, delivered a superb performance by interpreting the song “St Maarten is my home” by Lino Hughes leaving the assembly moved. To conclude the ceremony, Dominique Louisy, Louis Mussington, Silveria Jacobs and Rodolphe Samuel signed the official adoption of the Unity Flag as a cultural symbol of Saint-Martin, adding one more reason to celebrate. _VX
