Due to a strong swell, Météo France placed the Northern Islands on orange alert last Sunday for "dangerous seas at the coast". The situation is expected to last until Wednesday, according to forecasts.

"A large and strong extra-tropical depression in the Atlantic center continues to strengthen while moving towards the East" and this generates "a swell which propagates further towards the South and in this case on the West Indian arc and until Wednesday evening included, ”specifies Météo France. Strong waves are forecast until today with average troughs of 3 meters and maximum waves of 4 to 5 meters.

Here are some individual behavioral measures communicated by the prefecture:

- avoid as much as possible sea trips, swimming and water sports;

- be careful on the beaches: watch out for rollers and breaking waves;

- protect boats by sheltering them or removing them from the water;

- at sea, take all precautions to ensure your safety in the event of a fall into the water.
