The authorities of Sint Maarten (government, police) held "an emergency meeting to deal with the consequences of the effects of demonstrations and roadblocks in Saint-Martin", indicates the government.

“We stand in solidarity with the French people of Saint-Martin and their struggle, and pray that the dialogue will resolve the current deadlock in the interest of all. Our priority right now is to keep our community safe, ”said Prime Minister Jacobs, whose teams are in constant contact with the French authorities regarding the blockages.

Following the message from the tourist office advising tourists to stay in hotels in the French part, the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten assures that the authorities "are currently doing everything in their power to welcome tourists who have chosen to leave the French side and end their stay in the Dutch side ”.

"The population and tourists must be reassured: everything is done to ensure their safety," she continues. The government also recalls that "everyone must remain calm, stay on the Dutch side and not venture into the north of the island unless it is strictly necessary". And to specify: "The shops of Sint Maarten remain open".

Finally, the Dutch authorities "wish [their] northern counterparts a speedy resolution of the impasse and [hope] a return to normal life as soon as possible" and insist that they "will continue to facilitate arrangements already taken against people and tourists who come and go on the French side ”.
