A look back at the last "Entrepreneur's breakfast" organized by FipCom

On the morning of this Saturday, June 25, the Inter Professional Federation of the Collectivity of St Martin invited business leaders to discuss face-to-face with officials from the Collectivity of Saint Martin and the Prefecture in order to better understand and better apprehend the needs of the economic world of the territory.

The concept is now well known, the "Entrepreneur's Breakfast" is an event open to professionals wishing to discuss with local authorities and parliamentarians, their short and medium term vision, in economic matters and on issues in the various sectors of activity represented. From 8:30 a.m., the assembly thus had the possibility of tackling their own themes, having submitted the questions beforehand to the organizing team in order to allow the moderators to organize the exchanges in a structured way. By launching this new invitation, Michel Vogel, president of FipCom, recalled the importance of dialogue between state services and professionals given the recent changes, whether at the presidency of the Collectivity or at the Prefecture. Were therefore present to answer questions from professionals during this morning meeting, Valérie Fonrose (wife Picotin) and Bernadette Davis, both territorial councilors for the Collectivity, Alain Richardson, first vice-president in charge of the Economy and Resources (finance and taxation), Michel Vogel, president of Fipcom, and Mr. Prefect Vincent Berton. After a complete presentation of the new teams of officials in the room of the CCISM, the dialogue opened between all parties with a view to free debate and sharing of experience and ideas. All were first pleased to have finally succeeded, since the passage of Irma, to close an excellent tourist season. The local authorities have identified several points for an improvement of the next one while working to regress the Covid crisis. The common will is obviously to make Saint Martin an attractive destination for tourists, with the French part in mind, and this, despite the current situation whose economic consequences are, among other things, the increase in prices at the local level. and the scarcity of resources. In terms of land use planning, the Collectivity will soon begin a campaign to clean up the island with a dual objective, preparing for the next tourist season and protecting the inhabitants for the current hurricane season. Other themes addressed during the last electoral periods are still at the heart of the debates, the development of the port of Galisbay, the extension of the landing strip at Grand-Case airport, the widening of the road network, the strengthening territorial security. Many subjects which were at the center of this “Entrepreneurs' breakfast” and which will probably be discussed again during the next one. _VX
