ENCOUNTER: Laurence Blanc presents “La Cantatrice Chauve”

Outstanding singer, dedicated actress and genius director, Laurence Blanc confided in an interview between two rehearsals of the new play proposed by the company "Les têtes de l'art" which promises crazy performances.

The choice of the theatrical work is not insignificant. The faithful troupe of benevolent troublemakers tackle Eugène Ionesco's first play, La Cantatrice Chauve. An essential work of a single act composed of eleven scenes and having paved the way for the theater of the absurd, this play from the 50s totaled more than 21.000 performances and more than 3 million spectators at the end of 2021. Laurence Blanc dreamed of putting it in scene and it is now done. She also dreamed of interpreting the role of the maid who, in this version proposed by Les têtes de L'art, pulls the strings but again proving her propensity to put herself at the service of the play, and the play only, Laurence gave way to Valérie Bal who was already shining in the guise of this character during the rehearsals which began six months ago. The other actors who complete this infernal team, Gilles Chadru, Jean-René Le Troquer, David Pennacchietti and Anna-Maria Scrimieri, will revisit Ionesco's work by emphasizing the playwright's signatures: the absurdity of situations and the destructuring of language . The costumes and the scenography will greatly contribute to this new version. La Cantatrice Chauve is a crazy monster that is difficult to sum up. Laurence Blanc tried the exercise, calling it a big joke that she wanted to make more accessible and more understandable for the public of Saint Martin. For those who don't yet know this masterpiece by Ionesco, let's set the scene: Mr and Mrs Smith invite Mr and Mrs Martin to dinner. But are we sure? Besides, are they really there? Is the clock on time? Is the clock really a clock? And you, do you know why the singer is bald? But above all… What is really going on in this house? The Théâtre de la Chapelle takes up many challenges with a brilliance that is always noticed, La Cantatrice Chauve by the company Les têtes de l'art should be no exception to the rule. _VX
