0

Located in Concordia, a stone's throw from the media library, the Marie-Amélie Leydet primary school was relatively spared after the passage of Irma.

The approximately 318 students registered for the 2017 school year were able to return to school on November 6 under acceptable conditions. After the necessary protective measures as well as those to seal the roof which were undertaken in the first week of last February, the Collectivity has started repairing the aluminum joinery of the doors and windows and the monthly fence April, during the Easter holidays.

Only the heavy work of restoration of the canopy of the courtyard, which necessarily collapsed on September 6, was started in early July, so as not to disrupt school times. These are expected to be completed before the end of August. Total works which required the commitment of 65 euros from the Community budget planned for the repair of 000 schools on the island.

After still some beautification works of its surroundings and the installation of its sign, the Marie-Amélie Leydet school will be ready by the beginning of September 2018 to welcome the 293 pupils who will make their return to school there, an enrollment reduced by 25 pupils by report for 2017 registrations.

To remember :

Amount of work undertaken: 65 euros (out of the 000 million committed for the work of 9.5 schools).

Beginning of the roadworks : last quarter of 2017

End of the works : last week of August 2018

Main works: roofing, aluminum joinery doors and windows, fences, canopy of the courtyard.

In total, the Collectivity has planned a budget of 9,5 million euros for the rehabilitation of 18 public schools with the absolute priority, the return of schoolchildren on the school benches in optimal conditions at the start of the new school year in September. 2 million euros have already been paid to companies that carried out emergency repairs that enabled the children to return to school on November 6, 2017.

New sectorization:

From the start of the 2018 school year, and given the new configuration of primary schools, a new sector was recently adopted by the Executive Council. This decision arises from the need to ensure security, to guarantee the working conditions of members of the school community, while ensuring that the accommodation capacity of school premises is adequate and being vigilant that the adapting school sectors does not weaken the schools concerned, nor does it disrupt family arrangements.

Marie-Amélie Leydet School located at La Sucrerie, in Concordia will welcome students residing at Concordia 3 (rue Jean-Jacques Fayel, rue du Soleil levant, Béverly residence, la Sucrerie residence, Les Surettes residence, Habitat Plus residence, Calypso residence, residence Cinnamon, rue de la colombe, rue JL Hamlet, rue Ann Mary, rue Mangue Pomme, gendarmerie residence).
