Sargassum collection: real progress in the work

1

After a notable advance in terms of logistics put in place to clear the banks of Sargassum, the collection of brown algae began on May 11 in Cul-de-Sac.

Faced with this recurrent ecological disaster, the recent visit of Louis Mussington, president of the Collectivity, to the Cul-de-Sac site has made it possible to reopen the dialogue between the officials and the parties concerned by this environmental scourge. With a real desire to move things forward on the part of the Collectivity, the company Janky Environnement agreed to proceed with the collection of the new arrival of sargassum and to incur the costs to restore the equipment necessary for such an operation, the equipment being particularly stressed by elements such as sea water, sand, salt and the gases produced by Sargassum. To date, one side of the Cul-de-Sac pier has now been cleaned. As a reminder, the Collectivity had referenced the company GTN for the removal of algae but the work was not carried out correctly, the services of the COM organized last week a clarification meeting with the said company. The conclusions of this meeting have not yet been disclosed. If the situation is changing on the side of Cul-de-Sac and the beach of Orient Bay was mostly cleaned on May 16, Mont Vernon remains in good condition. According to the latest bulletin from the DEAL (Department of the environment, development and housing) of Guadeloupe, it is to be expected, in the next fortnight, other groundings, due to the presence of sargassum rafts currently located at lower latitudes which will go up towards these islands. If the tourist season drops, the sargassum season is in full swing. _VX

Hello, your article reflects reality well, however you could at least cite your sources, in particular the anti-Sargassum collective. We lead a fight and want to be a whistleblower when there are real dysfunctions or when things are going well. Today, for your information, the work has been stopped again because the company still has no visibility on the payments for the work carried out 6 months ago! Hoping that you can support our action by giving more visibility! Sincerely, The Anti-Sargassum Collective
