“Recreafish” project: Ifremer is launching a major study of non-professional fishing in the Antilles and therefore also in Saint-Martin!

0

Ifremer (French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea) is launching a study on recreational sea fishing in the Antilles (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy).

You are:

- fishermen on foot (shellfish, crabs, etc.), snorkeling, from the shore or from a boat;

- occasional fishermen (less than 5 trips per year) to very regular (several trips per week);

- fishermen targeting a single species or a wide range of species…

Your experience is invaluable to us in order to collect reliable information on the weight of marine recreational fishing in the Antilles, so far unknown. In particular, we wish to characterize the economic impacts of the activity, to better understand the profile of recreational fishermen as well as their opinions on regulations and the resource. The work also aims to collect information on the main catches targeted by fishermen.

For this project, we are looking for recreational sea fishermen who live in one of the 4 French territories in the Antilles and agree to describe precisely all the fishing trips they will carry out for a full year: the expenses incurred, the types fishing, areas frequented, catches ...

All your responses will be kept anonymous and strictly confidential.

At the end of a year of observation during which you have provided us with information on your fishing activity, you will be able to participate in a draw allowing you to win vouchers of 50, 100 or 150 euros in fishing equipment stores. We will also send you all the results of our study.

If you are interested in participating in this work, please send an email to recreafish@ifremer.fr or contact Ifremer Martinique on 05 96 66 19 50 before March 15, 2021.
