The First Road Safety Meetings took place on Tuesday, December 13 at the premises of the CCISM in Concordia. They were marked by a strong mobilization of State services, local elected officials, 
associations, insurers, dealers, driving schools and companies all driven by the same objective: to stop the infernal spiral of recurring road safety in Saint-Martin!
Faced with this alarming observation which has lasted for decades, the Prefecture, in partnership with the Collectivity, the Basse-Terre public prosecutor's office, the police, National Education, local associations involved in road safety with young have decided to launch a first major local consultation: the Assistes de la Sécurité Routière. During this event, the State, the COM and civil society discussed and made proposals to fight against this scourge. The main idea is to identify concrete actions to reduce the number of accidents on the territory's roads.
In turn, Vincent Berton, Delegate Prefect of the Northern Islands, Bernadette Davis, 2nd Vice-President of the Collectivity, in charge of the Living Environment, Xavier Sicot, Public Prosecutor of Basse-Terre, Harry Christophe, Vice-Rector of the Northern Islands, and General Vincent Lamballe, commander of the gendarmerie of Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands took the floor to emphasize the risky behavior of many motorists, two-wheelers who too often put their lives of others in danger in Saint-Martin, including their own lives. For them, a collective awareness must lead each of us to respect the basic rules of road safety on the territory. A huge challenge to take up, especially among Saint-Martin youth but also among adults who must set an example!
As a reminder, five people died this year as a result of an accident that left entire families in mourning, not to mention the large number of seriously injured people who will have to endure a moment of bewilderment lasting a few seconds all their lives. _AF
