Simpson Bay Bridge: Mega Yacht Tears Lift Control Cabin From Bridge


Sunday afternoon, the Simpson Bay Bridge was the scene of an unusual scene. The mega yacht "Ecstasea" tore off the cabin on the side of the deck as it entered the lagoon.

At 15:00 p.m., the mega yacht tightened a little too much on its right and collided with the cabin of the assistant opening the deck. Damage that did not hinder the functioning of the bridge which is fully functional. The Minister of TEATT (Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications) said that the extent of structural damage to the bridge control cabin is being assessed, and that the bridge  suffered limited damage. The technical staff of Port Sint Maarten have taken the necessary measures to rebuild the cabin. There were no injuries during the incident and the damage was limited to the cabin and the mega yacht. Furthermore, the incident should not affect the opening hours of the bridge. The owner of the “Ecstasea” had paid, a few years ago, for the widening of the bridge so that his yacht could access the lagoon of Simpson Bay…_RM
