Sandy-Ground Bridge: Sinking of a towing boat, several traces of oil visible in the lagoon!

1

For reasons still unexplained, a tugboat flying the “Sint-Maarten” flag which was used to support the rehabilitation of the Sandy-Ground bridge was wrecked during the night of Friday to last Saturday.

The management of the port of Galisbay began evacuation operations on the tug on Saturday noon. The latter was finally bailed out and towed by a crane on Saturday mid-afternoon. A floating barrier was also deployed around the polluting vessel to prevent the spread of oil, visible on the surface of the water and in the lagoon of Sandy-Ground, according to several boaters.

If the worst has been avoided thanks to the responsiveness of workers and divers, the numerous traces of oil will, whatever happens, have an impact on marine fauna. Unfortunately… _AF

Excuse but the damage is largely minimized since the tug sank a little before midnight !!! the hydrocarbons had plenty of time to spill into the channel before the famous barrier was put in place.
On the other hand, the refloating operations were carried out by the same service providers for the barge which operates on the bridge. On this occasion, the bridge deck was hit!
